Convert 30 currencies at the live mid-market rate — or look up the European Central Bank reference rate for any date back to 4 January 1999.

Fetching the rate…

This is the indicative mid-market rate — the midpoint between buy and sell. A bank, card issuer or bureau adds a spread on top, so the amount you actually receive is lower.

Which rate am I looking at?

Live rate is the spot mid-market price from the same feed behind our currency board. The FX market trades from Sunday 22:00 to Friday 22:00 London time; outside those hours it shows the Friday close.

Historical rateis the European Central Bank's daily reference rate, published each working day at around 16:00 CET and available back to 4 January 1999. The ECB does not fix at weekends or on TARGET holidays, so a date without a fixing returns the previous working day's rate — the source line tells you which fixing you are seeing.

Neither is a dealing rate. The price you are quoted to actually exchange money includes a margin, which is what our currency board and this page deliberately exclude.
